1. THOMAS VANEK
After a down year with the Wild, the 32-year-old Thomas Vanek has revitalized his career with the Red Wings this season and has been one of the best players on the team. He is producing at nearly a point-per-game pace (30 points in 33 games) and is currently on a six-game point streak.
Vanek will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and carries a salary of just $2.6 million. This, coupled with the fact that he is a veteran with a big right-handed shot, will certainly appeal to many teams around the league. Ken Holland has reportedly been receiving calls from other teams regarding a Vanek trade already.
While it would be difficult to see Vanek leave Detroit, the Red Wings could receive a solid return in a trade. The market for impact players at the deadline is slim, so this could work out in Detroit’s favor.
