5. GUSTAV NYQUIST
This is a bold prediction, as Gustav Nyquist is the only player on this list who is still under contract at season’s end. After scoring just under 30 goals in two straight seasons, Nyquist has disappointed since signing a four-year deal with the Red Wings in 2015. He failed to score 20 goals last season and only has six goals through 44 games this season.
Nyquist’s salary ($4.75 million) will make him tough to move, but I believe that Ken Holland will try to move him at the deadline considering he has a no-trade clause that takes effect next season. It is possible that Nyquist could be a part of a package deal with another team at the deadline that could work out for both sides.
Maybe a change of scenery could benefit Nyquist. He has shown that he has the potential to be a threat in the NHL. But with his recent struggles and a crop of young forwards on the rise for the Red Wings, Nyquist could be on his way out of Detroit.
