When the Lions drafted Ameer Abdullah in the 2015 NFL Draft, they obviously thought very highly of him and according to all accounts, they still do. That being said, the team hired Bob Quinn as their new general manager and whether or not he prefers Abdullah as an every-down back has yet to be determined.

If Quinn has his doubts about Abdullah, he very well may scour the free agent market to find an upgrade. The top free agent running back that may be available is Doug Martin.

Martin, who is only 27 years old, had a very good year in 2015 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and could be the answer for any team looking to solve their running back problems for the next few years. Of course, being the top FA running back also means that Martin may come at a price which is too steep for the Lions to consider.
