DT Gabe Wright
The writing may have been on the wall for Gabe Wright after the drafting of A’Shawn Robinson. Already deep with decent quality at the defensive tackle position, something has to give. Now, with the new and improved Khyri Thornton also making a strong case for a job, Wright just can’t catch a break.
Much like Alex Carter’s situation, a struggling second year player with no bond to the new management will not be enough to keep a spot off of draft status alone.
Former GM Martin Mayhew gave up this year’s third round pick to move up in the fourth round of last year’s draft to select the Auburn product. Our third round pick this year, Graham Glasgow, was obtained through the compensatory pick awarded for the loss of DT Ndamukong Suh. Essentially, you could look at Wright as our third round pick this year and yet he is on the chopping block. It may be wise for Quinn to try and trade Wright (or another DT) away for a late round pick to salvage any remaining value he can. If not, try for the practice squad and hope no one really liked what they saw in the limited action he has received.
