It was the road trip from hell for the Detroit Red Wings.
After two disappointing setbacks against the previously winless Chicago Blackhawks in the Windy City, they’ve followed that up with two straight losses at the hands of the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Arena.
Tonight’s edition was a 7-3 loss that saw goaltender Jonathan Bernier leave late in the 2nd period with an injury after colliding in the crease with forward Anthony Mantha.
The Stars got goals from seven different players and 19 saves from rookie Jake Oettenger. Meanwhile, Detroit’s goal scorers included Valtteri Filppula, Tyler Bertuzzi and Danny DeKeyser. Final shots were 29-22 for the Stars.
Bernier left in the 2nd period when Mantha crashed into the crease while tied up with Dallas forward Denis Gurianov, who scored on the play. Thomas Greiss replaced him and allowed two goals on six shots; the Stars also hit the empty net.
Detroit will return home for two games against the Florida Panthers starting on Saturday night.
