The 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward Svechnikov was Detroit’s first-round selection in 2015. He has 18 goals and 26 assists so far in 68 games for the Griffins. It’s his first full season in Grand Rapids after playing in two playoff games with the team a season ago.
With Drew Miller out with an illness, Svechnikov could find himself playing in both of Detroit’s back-to-back games against the Senators.
Coach Jeff Blashill said Svechnikov will play on a line with Dylan Larkin and Justin Abdelkader.
