JUST IN: Alex Wilson suffers broken leg after being struck by a line drive

We have breaking news – literally. Detroit Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson is going to be shelved for what is left of this season with a broken leg.

After replacing Drew VerHagen, he suffered a non-displaced fibular fracture on his right lower leg after being struck by a line drive from Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer. Wilson attempted to stay in the game – he got to his and threw a warmup pitch, but had to leave and was helped off the field.

Mauer’s hit was clocked at 103.8-MPH – ouch.

Wilson entered the game tied for second out of Tigers relievers with 60 innings pitched with a 4.35 ERA, which would be a career high. Additionally, he has 2.3 BB/9 and 6.3 SO/9 over the 60 innings.

Wilson’s injury wasn’t the only Tigers injury in this game. Jeimer Candelario left tonight’s game with a right knee contusion and is considered day to day. Additionally, Miguel Cabrera left the game with lower back tightness.
