You may love him, you may hate him. But he’s here to stay long term on Detroit’s airwaves.
97.1 The Ticket has announced the re-signing of opinionated and abrasive on-air personality Mike Valenti to a multi-year deal. He’s one half of the highly popular Valenti and Foster show, opposite Terry Foster.
“I am pleased Mike will continue to be part of many Detroiters’ drive home every day for years to come,” said program director Jimmy Powers. “He has the uncanny ability to give listeners a unique perspective, honesty and strong opinions like very few in the industry.”
Originally from New York, Valenti graduated from Michigan State University in 2002 with a journalism degree. His open love for his alma-matter has earned him the wrath of University of Michigan fans everywhere.
He once again made headlines when it was revealed that the Detroit Lions decided not to renew their contract with 97.1 because their request that Valenti be fired wasn’t met. Apparently unhappy with his criticism of the team, Lions games will now be broadcast on WJR AM. Valenti didn’t deny the allegations, saying, “It’s absolutely true, 100 percent of it.”
The Valenti and Foster show can be heard weekday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m on 97.1 The Ticket. The show has remained the #1 radio show among men 25-54 and adults 25-54 for more than five years.
