Today, an auction has begun from Olympia Entertainment for a chance to win memorabilia from Joe Louis Arena, which served as home of the Red Wings from 1979 to 2017. Olympia Entertainment and Red Wings employees are currently in the process of moving to Little Caesars Arena in Midtown. They’re expected to have fully vacated the Joe by December 31.

According to the news release, some of the items included for bidding will be the famous “Al the Octopus”, the “Greatness is a Daily Choice” sign that hung in the Red Wings dressing room, used player lockers, locker room doors, arena signage, and more.

The website’s name is www.BidOnTheJoe.com, and the auction will end Saturday, December 16. There is going to be a separate sale for the arena’s seats, and those details will be released at a later time/date.

“We’re excited to provide fans an opportunity to celebrate Joe Louis Arena’s rich tradition and heritage through this auction,” said Tom Wilson, CEO of Olympia Entertainment. “The Joe will always represent a special era, where countless memories in sports and entertainment were made for the Detroit community and its people.”

The Red Wings played their final game at The Joe on April 9, 2017 with a 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils that was followed by a post-game ceremony that included several former players and coaches.

The Red Wings may now play at the brand new Little Caesars Arena, but memories of the Joe can live on forever in your own home!
