Now that Ian Kinsler has officially been traded to the Los Angeles Angels, Dixon Machado will take over the second base duties for the Detroit Tigers beginning with the 2018 season.

With Machado likely becoming the full-time second baseman, the Tigers will be looking to sign a player who can fill more of a utility role with the team.

According to a report from MLive, the Tigers are expected to sign Ronny Rodriquez to a minor-league deal sometime this week. In fact, Rodriquez broke the news himself on his Instagram account.

Translation:

“Now I am a Tiger. Wow the biggest news I could have this year. First of all thank God to my mother family friends and to all the staff of the Cleveland Indians organization and super happy to be part of the team of Detroit Tigers. With God. We did not go to Detroit.”

Though we are not exactly sure what Rodriguez meant by that very last part, it sure sounds like he will be signing with the Tigers soon.

Rodriguez, who is 25-years-old, has spent his entire career in the Cleveland Indians minor league system. In 2017, he batted .291 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs with the AAA Columbus Clippers.
