With the news of Kobe Bryant’s jersey retirement dominating the NBA talk the last week, everyone’s favorite NBA father and sport-ish celebrity felt left out. So right on cue, LaVar Ball came out with one of his boldest ideas yet.

According to reports, LaVar Ball plans on starting a basketball league for the top high school prospects as an alternative to college.

The biggest draw to players would be that the league plans on paying their players, anywhere from $3,000 – $10,000 per month. So, for kids who don’t want to go overseas to play professionally, but want to make money while preparing for the NBA, LaVar thinks he has the perfect solution.

“Those kids who are one-and-done, they shouldn’t be there with the NCAA trying to hold them hostage, not allowing them to keep the jersey they wear while selling replicas of them in stores. So our guy isn’t going to go to Florida State for a year. He’s going to come to our league.”

Although LaVar’s two younger sons, LiAngelo and LaMelo, will not be featured in the league, LaVar does not believe he will have any problem getting players to join.

“Getting these players is going to be easy,” Ball told ESPN. “This is giving guys a chance to get a jump start on their career, to be seen by pro scouts, and we’re going to pay them because someone has to pay these kids.”

Naturally, all the gear, uniforms, and shoes will be Big Baller Brand affiliated as this appears to be as much of a business venture as an entertainment piece for LaVar. The Junior Basketball Association will also pay homage to LaVar’s favorite NBA player by having Laker’s rookie Lonzo Ball on the logo.

“We don’t need a logo of a guy dribbling,” Ball said, an obvious reference to the NBA’s famous Jerry West silhouette. “Nobody does that anymore.”

According to ESPN writer Darren Rovell, Lavar envisions a league of 10 teams with eight players each. LaVar also intends to play in NBA stadiums in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Dallas, and Atlanta.

This has all the makings of an idea that is just so crazy it might work. The NCAA has become more vulnerable over the last few years as players become more and more frustrated with the no-pay-for-play concept. However, if you think Goodell is a nightmare as a commissioner, could you imagine LaVar Ball with that much power?

Whether or not high school players will actually be willing to use this league as an alternative to college is yet to be seen. A lot still has to happen for this to become a reality, but if we have learned anything from LaVar, he typically goes through with what he says, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. However, this time he may be in over his head, yet that would not be the first time someone told him that.
