Depending on what ends up happening in Week 16, the Detroit Lions Week 17 matchup against the hated Green Bay Packers could determine whether or not the Lions earn their way into the NFL Playoffs.

According to Las Vegas, the Lions are currently a 9-point favorite over the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers at Ford Field. As you can see below, the last time the Lions were favored by more than nine points was in 1992 when Detroit was a 10.5-point favorite and lost by two touchdowns to Green Bay.

But for next week’s game to matter, the Lions will have to handle their business on Christmas Eve on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The easiest way for the Lions to squeeze their way into the NFL Playoffs is for them to win their final two games and have the Atlanta Falcons lose their final two games.

According to FiveThirtyEight, the Lions now have a 14% chance of earning a playoff berth. That low percent would have been 38% had the Buccaneers taken care of business on their home field.
