It’s over.

After crapping the bed and dropping a must-win game to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Detroit Lions have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

With the loss, and despite having one last regular season game remaining, the Lions and their fans can begin looking towards what will be a very important offseason.

It seems likely that Jim Caldwell will be fired, which means general manager Bob Quinn will be charged with hiring a head coach he believes can lead the Lions to the promised land.

According to Alex Marvez of Sirius XM NFL Radio, the Lions could be interested in making current New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia their next head coach.

Quinn, of course, was in the Patriots front office before being hired by the Lions, so he knows Patricia very well.

All of this depends on what Quinn and the Lions decide to do with Caldwell. Will they decide to fire him and go in a different direction, or will the Lions honor his current contract, which goes through the 2018 season?

Time will tell, but losing to an awful Bengals team in a game the Lions had to win certainly does not help Caldwell’s cause to remain in Detroit for the foreseeable future.

Alright Lions… What now?

The Detroit Lions have been eliminated from playoff contention after their 26-17debacle of a loss to the hapless Bungles. Yes, the same Cincinnati Bengals that fell to the 5-10 Chicago Bears 33-7. The Lions, who were playing for their playoff lives, couldn’t match the intensity, the effort, or even the coaching of a team playing with a lame-duck head coach.

So… What now?
