Since taking over as head coach of the Detroit Lions, Jim Caldwell has led the team to a 35-28 regular season record and two NFL Playoff appearances. Unfortunately, the even-keeled Caldwell has not been able to get the Lions over the hump in terms of winning the division or a playoff game, and after Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, he may be in his final days as Lions’ head coach.

According to a report by NFL insider Jay Glazer, Caldwell sealed his fate by losing a must-win game to the Bengals.

After the 2017 regular season was underway, news broke that the Lions had signed Caldwell to a contract extension. Though the terms of the contract were not revealed at the time, it was thought to be a multi-year deal.
But that was not the case.
About two weeks ago, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that though Caldwell did receive an extension, the deal was only through the 2018 season, not exactly a vote of confidence by Lions general manager Bob Quinn.
As we know, Lions owner Martha Ford “loves” Jim Caldwell, but that may not be quite enough to save him this time.
If Calwell is fired, Quinn will be charged with the most important job he has had up to this point, hiring a head coach who will lead the Lions to the next level, and beyond.
