With the announcement of Jim Caldwell being fired as head coach of the Detroit Lions, general manager Bob Quinn’s mission to find a replacement is well underway.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Lions have requested permission to interview Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur.

Shurmur, who is 52-years-old, was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and played football for the Michigan State Spartans.

He has coached in the NFL since the 1999 season, joining the Vikings staff as a tight ends coach in 2016 and being named offensive coordinator prior to the 2017 season. Shurmer has also served as offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams (2009-2010) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2013-2015). He also had head coaching experience as he was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2011-2012 and the interim head coach of the Eagles in 2015. His overall record as a head coach is 10-23.
In 2017, the Vikings offense ranked No. 10 in scoring and No. 11 in total yards per game.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions announced that head coach Jim Caldwell has been notified that he will not be returning as the team’s head coach in 2018.
The move was no surprise at all as rumors were flying around everywhere that the Lions Week 16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals sealed Caldwell’s fate.
Now, general manager Bob Quinn will be charged with the all-important task of hiring the perfect head coach for the Lions organization.
