WATCH: Matthew Stafford, other Detroit Lions players react to firing of Jim Caldwell

It’s never easy when somebody you have worked with for an extended amount of time and grown close to is let go from an organization.

That’s what happened to many Detroit Lions players and staff on Monday when it was announced that head coach Jim Caldwell had been fired.

Following the announcement, Tori Petry of the Lions interviewed some Lions players, including Matthew Stafford, Marvin Jones, Darius Slay, Akeem Spence, Darren Fells, Don Carey, Eric Ebron, and Glover Quin about their feelings towards Caldwell.

It was 100% clear that each player Petry talked to has the utmost respect for Jim Caldwell and what he did for them as individuals.

Earlier in the day, Lions owner Martha Ford released a statement expressing her gratitude for what Caldwell did for the organization.

The Detroit Lions have officially parted ways with head coach Jim Caldwell following four years of service.

On Monday, during their end of the season meeting, Lions general manager Bob Quinn made it clear to the players that his goal is to find a championship coach.
