There is no question about it, Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn’s most important job this offseason it to hire a new head coach.

Quinn had wasted little time as he has already interviewed six candidates.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football talk, Quinn’s search may already be over as the Lions are ‘likely’ to make New England Patriots defense coordinator Matt Patricia their next head coach.

Via Pro Football Talk:

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots are bracing for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to leave, most likely to become the next coach of the Detroit Lions.”

“Of course, the Lions will have to wait until the Patriots’ season ends before hiring Patricia. The longer the job remains open, the more obvious a candidate Patricia will become, like Kyle Shanahan last year in San Francisco and Dan Quinn three years ago in Atlanta.”

The Detroit Lions swept their divisional rivals from Green Bay for the first time since 1991, and now they’ve reportedly taken steps to ensure that part of their current coaching staff doesn’t soon find himself on their side of the rivalry.

While they’re allowing defensive coordinator Teryl Austin to explore potential coaching opportunities with other teams, they didn’t give him permission to interview for the now-open defensive coordinator position with the Packers following their firing of Dom Capers.
