Yesterday on the show NFL Countdown, Charles Woodson was surprised to find out about his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. While at the same time yesterday, I was surprised to find out that Charles Woodson was not already in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Two decades after Woodson capped his prolific career at the University of Michigan with a National Championship and Heisman trophy, he will be immortalized at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia. After learning about his induction, Woodson had this to say.

The ultimate Swiss army knife of college football, Woodson was elite in all three phases of the game. Charles Woodson’s defense was suffocating, totaling 16 interceptions and seven in his last year,  as he remains the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman trophy. Despite his elite defense, it was his contributions on offense and special teams that made him such a special player. Woodson totaled six total touchdowns over his three years at Michigan, including this legendary punt return.

Charles Woodson stands out as one of, if not the greatest player to ever wear the Maize and Blue. Woodson’s career numbers and impact stack up with some of the greatest to ever play this game and on December 4th, 2018 Charles Woodson will officially accept his well-deserved place in College football history.

Woodson was not the only local hero to earn this recognition. Detroit Lion great Calvin Johnson will also be inducted on December 4th.

Calvin Johnson played his collegiate ball at Georgia Tech from 2004-2006 where he totaled nearly 3,000 receiving yards and 29 total touchdowns. With stats like that and the physical specimen Megatron was, it is not hard to imagine why the Detroit Lions selected him with the second overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

Johnson and Woodson will join eight other players and three coaches in the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame class. From CBS Sports.
