Today the Detroit Tigers have signed more outfield depth for their Minor Leagues, agreeing to terms with Herlis Rodriguez, formerly in the Philadelphia Phillies system. The news was first reports by Emily Waldon of The Athletic.

Rodriguez is a 23-year-old prospect that has seen 48 games at that Triple-A level. However, in 2017 he regressed, eventually being demoted to Double-A — seeing nine games there — and ultimately landing in High-A ball. However, as underwhelming as that sounds, he has had a great Winter Ball season in Venezuela, hitting .338/.385/.421, with a home run, and 11 RBIs in 133 at-bats.

The move will undoubtedly allow the Tigers to fill other levels of their minor league system while guys like JaCoby Jones and Daz Cameron continue to develop. Jones will be in a strong competition for the centerfield job alongside Leonys Martin and Cameron slots in to be the centerfielder of the future.

Update:

The Tigers also came to Minor League agreements with RHPs Phillippe Aumont and Orbandy Rodriguez, as well as LHP LIarvis Breto. In addition, the club officially announced the signing of catcher Brayan Pena and INF Pete Kozma, each of which were signed to Minor League deals with invites to Spring Training.
