Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio announced Friday that defensive end Lashawn Paulino-Bell would be transferring from the Spartans football program.

Dantonio did not state why Paulino-Bell would be leaving the program after just one year at Michigan State. Paulino-Bell was a 3-star recruit in the 2017 class from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His start to his Michigan State career did not go as planned as he was injured in April of 2017 in a jet ski incident and didn’t get to campus until July of 2017. He did not record any stats this year with Michigan State and was also suspended for the teams win against Washington State University in the Holiday Bowl.

Paulino-Bell is the latest of a handful of players that have decided to transfer after the Spartans Holiday Bowl win over Washington State. Wide Reciever Hunter Rison, cornerback/wide receiver Kaleel Gaines, quarterback Messiah deWeaver, and wide receiver Trishton Jackson  (who recently decided to go play at Syracuse University) all have left the program this winter.

This past season, MSU rebounded back after a 3-9 2016 campaign to finish 10-3 in 2017,  including another win against in-state rival Michigan and highly rated Penn State.

So, Nation, is this a cause for concern for Michigan State and their football program or is it a trend we are more commonly seeing nationwide from collegiate athletes who don’t get the playing time they want and don’t want to compete for their spot and playing time? We have also seen a handful of transfers this past winter from Michigan Wolverines as well.
