It’s been a rough week for Michigan State University, as the fallout involving sexual abuse from disgraced former doctor Larry Nassar continues to unfold.

This morning, athletic director Mark Hollis released a statement on the behalf of the athletic department. You can see his full statement in a tweet by Matt Charboneau of the Detroit News, below:

As shown in the statement above, this comes after the NCAA sent a letter to the University, stating that they want to launch an investigation into this abuse scandal. This also comes during a week where Nassar has been face to face with many of his former victims in court, a week where Tom Izzo released a statement of his own that was deemed questionable by many, and a week where University President Lou Anna K. Simon has come under a lot of fire for her role in the case.

Nassar pled guilty to 10 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and is facing 25 years to life in prison. Yesterday was the sixth day of his sentencing hearing where several victim-impact statements continued to be made by young women whom he sexually abused.

As the horrific scandal involving sexual abuse from disgraced former doctor Larry Nassar continues to unfold, Michigan State University is scrambling from the fallout from the comments from one particular trustee.

Trustee Joel Ferguson, who also serves as vice chairman of the board, was adamant in his support for maligned university president Lou Anna K. Simon, who has come under severe scrutiny for her actions (or alleged lack thereof) during and after the sex abuse scandal came to light.
