We all know that 2018 is going to be a long year for Detroit Tigers fans.  That being said, there are some great opportunities to get out to Comerica Park and watch the festivities. Tickets shouldn’t be hard to get!

After reviewing the schedule, here are 5 must-see games in 2018:

1. March 29, 2018 – 1:10 PM – Opening Day vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

This one is a no-brainer.  Opening Day in Detroit should be a state holiday. If you’ve never been downtown to see the spectacle, I highly recommend it. It’s a rite of passage for all Tiger baseball fans, and this year’s date of March 29th is just the 4th ever to be played in March. The Tigers are hoping to extend their Opening Day win streak to 10 games dating back to 2009. They are 66-50-1 all-time in home openers since 1901.

2. May 28, 2018 – 1:10 PM – Memorial Day vs. Los Angeles Angels

Memorial Day is a great day to get out to the ballpark and see former Detroit Tigers Ian Kinsler and Justin Upton. The Angels are loaded and should be a threat in the AL West in 2018.  If that’s not enough, check out the themed shirts the team will be giving away to attendees.

3. August 12, 2018 – 1:10 PM – Jack Morris Number Retirement Ceremony

This is a game I won’t miss. Jack Morris was one of my favorite players growing up, and he finally got the Hall of Fame nod he’s deserved this year. He’ll be inducted into Cooperstown later this summer along with his teammate Alan Trammell. Jack was the winningest pitcher in the 1980’s and was dominant in the post-season winning 4 World Series championships. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Jack Morris HOF replica jersey.

4. August 26, 2018 – 1:10 PM – Alan Trammell Number Retirement Ceremony

If you were a baseball fan in Detroit during the 1980’s than you remember Alan Trammell, and how good he was. Trammell’s #3 and his teammate Jack Morris’ #47 will become the 7th and 8th numbers to ever be retired by the Detroit Tigers. The first 10,000 fans will receive an Alan Trammell HOF replica jersey.

5. September 7-9, 2018 – 1968 World Series 50th Anniversary Weekend vs. St. Louis Cardinals

This weekend series against the Cardinals is the official 50th anniversary of the 1968 World Series Champions. There are some great giveaways for the fans in attendance, including a replica road jersey from 1968 for the first 20,000 fans, replica pennants, and “sock it to em” socks. There might not be any other reason to head to the park this late in the season.

Bonus Can’t-Miss Games:

Justin Verlander Returns – September 10-12, 2018 vs. Houston Astros

Kids Opening Day – April 15, 2018 vs. New York Yankees

Star Wars Night – May 11, 2018 vs. Seattle Mariners

Polish-American Night – May 25, 2018 vs. Chicago White Sox

Negro Leagues Weekend – June 8-10, 2018 vs. Cleveland Indians

Fiesta Tigres – August 11, 2018 vs. Minnesota Twins

Which Detroit Tigers games are you going to attend? The baseball on the field might not be great, but I’ll be there for Opening Day, Polish-American Night, and the jersey retirements for Morris and Trammell for sure.

  1. You notice none of these games have any importance except that they are honoring players from the 1984 club and the 1968 club. Why is there any reason to come and watch this band of losers with what Avila and Illich have done to destroy the club. I am calling for a boycott of this team because no fan deserves to have to pay to see this team. Boycott the games and make sure Chris Illich losses a lot of money and maybe he will wake up and fire Avila.
