Michigan State University has been under the microscope in the public eye since the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal became revealed publicly. The president and the athletic director of the school have since stepped down, and ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” then went on to drop a bombshell on the school’s athletic department, specifically target the football and men’s basketball programs.

Yesterday, Michigan State named former state governor John Engler as the school’s interim president. Many students are not happy about this, and they made their voices heard today at the school’s most recent Board of Trustees meeting. You can see parts of their protest in the video clip below, provided by the Big Ten Network on Twitter:

As shown in the video, one student sat on the table and stated that “he was disappointed in the school’s hiring of Engler,” saying “that’s not who the students of Michigan State wanted to run the board,” and finished by saying this:

Together, we hope you as a board of trustees make better decisions going forward and allow us in on the process.

You can see more of the statements from the disgruntled students in the tweets below:

Other prominent leaders chimed in as well:

It’s pretty clear that not many people are happy with Engler being named President, or with the selection process itself.

Michigan State has now also announced that Greg Ianni will become the school’s interim athletic director. We’ll now have to see how the folks around East Lansing react to that.
