The University of Michigan loves hiring, “Michigan men”. They tend to hire people who have some type of history with the program. That is exactly what they did by bringing back former wide receiver Roy Roundtree as a graduate assistant.

Roundtree will concentrate his attention on working with the young group of talented receivers at Michigan. The wide receiver position at Michigan is one of the most intriguing position groups to watch going into next season. This offseason the young receiving core has to focus on changing their label from young-with-potential to talented-and-productive.

Roundtree himself had a productive career at Michigan, accumulating over 2,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns during his time in the winged helmet. His best year came during his sophomore campaign when he caught 72 passes for 935 yards and seven touchdowns. It was that type of production that gave Roundtree the opportunity to don number 21 in honor or Wolverine great Desmond Howard. That was back when Michigan was honoring their legend with player patches. Back when you had to earn the right to wear numbers such as No. 1 as a wide receiver (Kekoa Crawford), but I digress.

Roundtree had some great moments while wearing the maize and blue, including this UNBELIEVABLE catch to help complete an unbelievable comeback. The Wolverines would go on to win the game in overtime, all thanks to Roundtree’s magical catch.

The Big House exploded after Roundtree’s circus catch, that is those who stayed for the comeback. The insane juggling catch he made here was a bright spot in an otherwise average season that saw the Wolverines go 8-5.

Roundtree’s focus now shifts to helping Michigan’s receivers make plays like he did downfield. Easier said than done, as the Michigan passing game was atrocious last year. With the potential addition of Shea Patterson this year, the passing game is set to get a spark either way. This receiving core has the potential to be special and we’ll see if Roundtree can help them reach that potential.
