Lions president Rod Wood confirms “slight increase” in ticket prices

Despite missing out on the playoffs last season, the Detroit Lions will be raising ticket prices going into the 2018 season for the sixth consecutive season.

Following new head coach Matt Patricia’s introductory press conference, president Rod Wood revealed that fans could expect to see a rise in ticket prices when they’re revealed later in the week.

“There’ll be a slight increase,” Wood explained after the press conference. 

“I think (the Patricia hire) will be well-received by our fans, and I’m looking forward to being able to talk about it now officially, and build excitement as we go through the summer and into the season,” he continued.

“Looking forward to building on that, and the great home-field advantage we have, and have the place full and continue to set attendance records and have standing-room only crowds. And I think Matt’s certainly going to help.” 

Here’s one such example of the newly raised prices:

Last year, the Lions raised prices by 2.8 percent; the average ticket price for the year was $99. The $100 million renovations to Ford Field along with the home schedule meant the Lions were one of a handful of NFL teams to have a year-over-year attendance increase.

513,100 people passed through the gates at Ford Field during the year, breaking the record of 510,369 set in 2013. Three of their home games were among the six highest attended games in Ford Field history.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Detroit Lions officially introduced Matt Patricia as their next head coach during a press conference held in Allen Park.

Following an opening statement where he thanked his family, his former colleagues, his former players, Bob Quinn, Rod Wood, and the Ford family, Patricia fielded questions from the media. Overall, the Lions new head coach seemed to nail just about every question that came his way, though some answers were vague, with the exception of one.

When he was asked to give a one-word answer to clarify whether or not Jim Bob Cooter would remain the Lions offensive coordinator, Patricia’s answer was a bit unclear (and definitely more than one word).
