Opinionated Detroit radio host Mike Valenti couldn’t help but respond to the fact that the Detroit Pistons are now using seat covers in the lower bowl of Little Caesars Arena to cover the bright red seats that are noticeably empty during television broadcasts.
From the Detroit Free Press:
“The Detroit Pistons unveiled a partnership with Art Van Furniture company that introduced black seat covers with the Art Van logo over many center-court seats at Little Caesars Arena during Monday’s 118-103 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Workers removed the covering after the game so the agreement does not include the Detroit Red Wings.

Valenti reacted strongly, saying that he’s never seen a professional team use seat covers in the lower bowls of their respective stadiums, and that it’s essentially an admission that the move to downtown Detroit was a mistake.
Is he wrong? We’d have to be silly to disagree with his assessment. The fact is, it’s quite embarrassing that the move to downtown Detroit that was predicted to pack fans to the rafters nightly has been nearly the exact opposite.
According to ESPN, the Pistons are 19th in the NBA in tickets sold per game, averaging 17,182. But their 81.8 percent of available tickets sold ranks 29th out of 30 teams.
Definitely not what team officials were hoping for with the move to downtown Detroit.
