Miguel Cabrera enters the upcoming season for the Detroit Tigers at 100% health, hopefully.

The 34-year-old, who turns 35 in April, is hoping to have a bounce-back year for the Detroit Tigers in 2018. Last season Miggy saw the worst overall stat line of his career. To see a player of his caliber hit .249, the lowest in his career, isn’t normal and much of it had to do with his health throughout the campaign. Cabrera hopes his health is back, and at this stage of his career, that is the most important thing. He is down at Spring Training, and it seems his spirits are up when it comes to his health.

According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press,

“I feel like I can do things better,” he said. “More natural. Don’t try to think too much. Try to go out there and trust what I have and play my best.”

If the Tigers plan to be competitive and surprise some opponents and fans this upcoming season, Cabrera has to be healthy. If the above quote says anything, it’s that he is positive about the current status of his health. If Cabrera can go out there on the field, play loose and not be hindered by his health, it will help not only help himself but the rest of the team. There is no doubt that Cabrera being healthy would help out with the development process for the younger players on this team.

The Tigers seem to be approaching Spring Training in a very relaxed way as a whole. If Cabrera can do the same and not worry about his body failing, he would be a perfect candidate for the “Comeback Player of the Year” award. And the swing still looks great:

The fewer physical issues for Cabrera the better. If his body is there, his mind will be there.  There is no denying Cabrera is one of the best hitters of all time, and if he can be all in mentally, his stat line will recover. Hopefully, for this future first-ballot Hall of Famer, he is 100% and can help the Tigers surprise some people in 2018.
