The Tigers official Twitter account posted the locker room celebration this morning:

Trammell will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame later this summer, along with long-time teammate Jack Morris. For 20 seasons Trammell was the shortstop for the Tigers, and he finished his career with six All-Star Game selections, three Silver Slugger Awards, and four Gold Gloves. He batted over .300 seven times in his career, finishing with a .285 career batting average, 185 home runs, 1,003 RBI, 412 doubles and 2,365 hits.

In 1987 Tram had his best season ever, with an incredible slash line of .343/.402/.551. He somehow finished 2nd in the MVP voting that summer to George Bell of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was the first Tiger since 1955 to have 200 hits and 100 RBIs in a season.

According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Trammell became the first shortstop in MLB history to hit at least .340 with 28 home runs and 100 RBI in a season in 1987. Since then, only Alex Rodriguez matched that feat in 1996.

Tramell was the World Series MVP of the 1984 championship team, going 9-for-20 with two homers and six RBI in the series versus the San Diego Padres.

After his playing career ended, Trammell managed the Tigers from 2003-2005 and was replaced with Jim Leyland heading into the 2006 season.

The Tigers will be celebrating Alan Trammell on August 26th by retiring his #3 jersey, and the first 10,000 fans into Comerica Park will receive an Alan Trammell HOF replica jersey. That’s a must-see game if you are a fan of Tram. Check out our other must-see games in 2018.

Happy Birthday, Tram! Here’s to finally getting the Hall of Fame nod you deserved after an amazing career.
