As the Detroit Pistons get set to return from the All-Star break they got a bit of good news about starting point guard Reggie Jackson.

Jackson has been cleared for light running, shooting drills and ankle-strengthening exercises according to reports. There is still no timetable for the Pistons’ point guard to resume practicing. Jackson has been out of the Pistons lineup since December 26th when he went down with a Grade 3 ankle sprain. The Pistons have a record 9-15 since then and are now a game-and-a-half out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Stan Van Gundy said the following to a group of reporters.

“He’s doing a little bit more running, now he’s running on full body weight, but he’s not full speed yet,” coach Stan Van Gundy said. “He’s certainly not cutting. He’s just starting the process here at eight weeks to get back. I don’t know when it’ll be.”

Reggie Jackson had this to say about how his rehab is going.

“All I know is that I’m doing more,’’ said Jackson. “I ran a little bit over the break and I came in and ran today. I had a great workout and I’m ramping it up just a tad bit more. I understand injuries happen and you have to come back fully healthy and that’s the job of the trainers. They’re doing a great job of monitoring me. They’re trying to get me healthy.’’

The Pistons’ medical staff will keep an eye on Jackson for the next week to see how well he progresses with the new limitations. With 25 games left in the Pistons season, they are going to need to get their starting floor general back on the court soon. Especially when you consider he has yet to practice with recently-acquired star Blake Griffin. The Detroit Pistons start their push for the playoffs tomorrow as they play host to the Boston Celtics.
