Last week a report surfaced from Yahoo Sports stating that Michigan State’s Miles Bridges’ mother received $400 from Christian Dawkins, an associate of professional basketball agent, Andy Miller.

At the time of the report, the thought was that Bridges could end up being ruled ineligible by the NCAA and could miss Michigan State’s season finale against Wisconsin and possibly the Big Ten Tournament.

But on Sunday, news broke that Bridges was cleared to play by the NCAA and he did just that as the Spartans defeated the Badgers to clinch an outright Big Ten Championship.

Now, there is more clarification to exactly how the whole thing played out. As noted in the following statement, the report from Yahoo Sports was apparently not true but Michigan State did uncover an NCAA violation. Bridges was ruled ineligible but after MSU applied for reinstatement, he was cleared to play.

Statement from MSU:

“In the course of Friday’s internal investigation, while it was determined that the allegations detailed in the Yahoo Sports report were not true, the MSU compliance office did uncover an NCAA violation,” MSU said in a statement. “Per standard operating procedures, Miles Bridges was declared ineligible and MSU applied for reinstatement. On Saturday afternoon, MSU received word that Bridges had been reinstated by the NCAA.

“Last winter (2016-17), Bridges’ family members had dinner with an agent, without Bridges’ knowledge. As part of the reinstatement process, Bridges was required to pay $40 (value of dinner) to a charity of his choice.

“While it is not unusual for reinstatement cases to be handled within a day, Michigan State appreciates the NCAA taking swift action.”
