In the youthful world of college basketball, expectations are often high for freshmen, especially top-ranked freshmen. Michigan State’s Jaren Jackson Jr. is no exception. The top-ranked, five-star center out of Indiana had high expectations on a team that also had extremely high expectations. Well, it turns out that the expectations were fair and obtainable as Jackson went on to have a majorly successful freshman year. And now he has some hardware to show for that.

Jackson was not only named Big Ten Freshman of the Year but the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year as well. Jackson put up some impressive stat lines while averaging just 22 minutes a game. He finished the regular season with 11.3 points per game, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game.

Jackson also racked up over 100 blocks. That’s right he had over one hundred blocks this year. And did I mention he shot over 40% from downtown while attempting nearly three a game? With stats like that, it is not hard to see why this kid won both Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten. It’s also not hard to see why he is a guaranteed lottery pick in this upcoming NBA Draft. Some mock drafts have him going as high as top three, ahead of his other super-teammate Miles Bridges.

However, for now, both Spartans probably have other things on their mind, such as finishing their careers with some more meaningful hardware. Like an NCAA Championship.
