Shea Patterson’s appeal has been filed with the NCAA for immediate eligibility at the University of Michigan.

The appeal was also sent to Patterson’s former school Ole Miss. Ole Miss has 10 business days to respond to the appeal. Patterson and his attorney Thomas Mars want to get the process complete as soon as possible, with hopes that Patterson can be involved in Spring Practice, which begins in less than a month on March 23rd.

Attorney Thomas Mars on the Appeal Process, from Michigan Insider:

“The typical procedure in Indianapolis (for the NCAA) upon receipt of a waiver application is first of all, the assignment of a case manager to this particular application,” Mars explained. “The responsibilities of the case manager are to review the contents of the application, to review any information that Ole Miss submits within the 10 business day period, and if they don’t submit any information… to wait until 10 business days have passed. Hypothetically, Ole Miss could email the NCAA tomorrow and say, “we’ve reviewed the Shea Patterson/Michigan waiver application and here is our response.” Or they could say nothing, at which point on the 12th of March the case manager (would say) the 10-day period has expired, Mississippi has not responded and the case can move forward.”

After the Ole Miss portion of the process is complete, the NCAA will hand it over to a three-person committee that they’ve assigned to the case:

“Once that meeting is scheduled and convened, the case manager will prepare a memo to the three people on the committee,” said Mars. “Once that committee meets, the case manager will come in and present the grounds for the waiver application. There will then be a discussion among the three members of the committee.”

The NCAA has no deadline to meet once they are handed the case.

Michigan Football and their fans should be hoping that this is a smooth and quick process, so Patterson can get on the field during spring practice. With the problems the Wolverines faced on offense and at the quarterback position last season, the quicker you can get Patterson out there and up to speed, the better.

In 2017 Patterson started 7 games for Ole Miss and threw for 2,259 yards, 17tds, 9ints and a completion percentage of 63.9%.
