On Sunday, the Michigan Wolverines defeated Purdue handily to claim the Big Ten Tournament Championship for the second-straight year. As the tournament played out, especially after Michigan beat Michigan State in the semifinals, Wolverines’ head coach John Beilein started to get plenty of attention nationally for being one of the best coaches in college basketball.

One person who has noticed the job Beilein has done with the Michigan program is former Detroit Lions quarterback, Dan Orlovsky.

A couple of hours after the conclusion of the game, Orlovsky, hopped on Twitter to give his thoughts but instead of just complimenting Beilein, he threw some major shade at Wolverines head football coach, Jim Harbaugh.

“I see you John Beilein doing for @UMich what they brought Harbaugh in to do.”

Ouch!

Since taking over the Wolverines’ basketball program in 2007, Beilein has compiled an overall record of 243-142 and has led Michigan to seven (eight if you include this season) NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2013 he brought the Wolverines all the way to the Final Four and eventually the National Championship Game before falling to Louisville.

Harbaugh, of course, has come under a bit of fire since being hired as the Michigan football coach, primarily because he has not been able to handle his business against Michigan State and Ohio State or win a Big Ten Championship.

Orlovsky, who has been building a following as of late because of his spot-on football analysis, is still best known for when he took a snap and ran out of the end zone for a safety in 2008 against the Minnesota Vikings.

From Detroit Free Press:

“I’m still the poster boy for it, unfortunately,” Orlovsky said. “And the good thing for me is I’ve got super thick skin and I don’t really run from much so it’s not hard for me to quote-unquote talk about it because of those aspects.

  1. The one problem I see with Harbaugh at Michigan; he was hopefully hired to produce a championship team (at least one could assume), but his salary and perquisites are so high, I don’t see much incentive for him to be more than an average coach, who punctuates the season with ‘gimmickry’ in order to garner attention. So far, he has not produced as was advertised before the hiring. Maybe people expected too much (Myself for one) and Jim is just not ready to handle a program at Michigan as previously thought. I think they paid him too much money, too fast to assure his success. Even if he doesn’t win anything of substance while at Michigan, he is set monetarily, and can move on to greener pastures as he has before. I hope he proves me wrong this year, because I am tired of experiencing much anticipation every year, only to be disappointed with average or sub-par performance on offense each year. No more excuses, just beat your big rivals before you start any more theatrics, Jim Harbaugh.
