The Detriot Lions have been extremely busy today. NFL Free Agency officially opened and the Detroit Lions wasted no time making additions. Bob Quinn started the day resigning safety Tavon Wilson. Quinn then filled the void at linebacker by signing former New York Giant Devon Kennard and former Chicago Bear Christian Jones.

Now on his fourth move of the day, the Detroit Lions have re-signed cornerback Nevin Lawson.

Lawson totaled 47 tackles last year and added a forced fumble. The Lions selected Lawson in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Lawson is a smaller corner at 5’9 but plays his role well. Due to his size, Lawson plays a lot of nickelback and covers slot receivers often, but also can play on the outside.

So far Bob Quinn has signed a total of four defensive players and zero offensive players. Ideally, Quinn will be able to go out and get another stud cornerback to line up along the super-star Darius Slay. Lawson and Wilson fill in nicely with the Lions, but another stud corner would go along way for this team.

Another focus this off-season for Bob Quinn has been fixing the running game. Earlier in the week, he brought in running backs DeMarco Murray and Jonathan Stewart, and while Murray remains available Stewart signed with the New York Giants earlier today. Another piece that would have exceptionally helped the running game was free agent guard Andrew Norwell. Unfortunately, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars already.

Big signings and trades have come in waves these past couple days. And the Lions’ fellow NFC North inhabitants have been involved in many of those deals. The Vikings signed former Spartan and Washington Redskin quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Bears signed pro-bowl receiver Allen Robinson, and the Packers signed pro-bowl tight end Jimmy Graham while dropping Jordy Nelson.
