Hockeytown, A name that is synonymously tethered to the Detroit Red Wings is surrounded by uncertainty. The past two seasons have tested the patience of the fans that had expected success as a result of four Stanley cup victories over the span of 25 straight seasons of playoff appearances. However, what does remain is the legacy of what has become known as Hockeytown, USA.

Detroit has developed a legacy of tradition, all culminating from their beginnings as an Original Six NHL team. The Winged Wheel adorned on their sweaters has become more than just a logo. It has ultimately grown into the symbol most associated with Hockeytown.  As time has gone by we have witnessed legendary players such as Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay all the way to more recent players Steve Yzerman, Niklas Lidstrom, and Henrik Zetterberg add to the story of Detroit hockey.

We have seen many feats including an NHL Record of 21 straight home wins and the record for most consecutive 100 point seasons with 9. We witnessed the downfall of the Red Wings with the so called Dead Wings era only to have them see new life with the emergence of Steve Yzerman.

Hockeytown has long been the type of franchise that sets the bar on hockey tradition. Its the memories that we hold onto that keep this franchise strong. From the Octopi hitting the ice during the playoffs, the infamous brawl with Colorado in 1997 and even the closing of The Joe with the opening of Little Caesars Arena.

As many may be worried about the future and the direction Hockeytown is taking its important for us as fans to remember that it always rebounds and will re-establish the image as a consistently successful franchise that was only recently lost. We have the promise of young players in Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha, amongst others.

It is with these players that we will continue to believe in the legacy that is Hockeytown, USA.
