Detroit Lions Week 1 Rooting Guide

Welcome to Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season! Each week we will be publishing a rooting guide for Detroit Lions fans. This guide will focus on what is best for the Lions and take all of the thought out of which teams you should want to win and which you should want to lose on a weekly basis.

So, without further ado, here is your Week 1 rooting guide.

Don’t worry about AFC vs. AFC matchups

First of all, you should not really care about AFC vs. AFC games as they will not have an impact on the Lions playoff chances. Here are the AFC vs. AFC matchups for Week 1.

Bill @ Ravens

Texans @ Patriots

Titans @ Dolphins

Bengals @ Colts

Steelers @ Browns

Chiefs @ Chargers

Always root for AFC teams over NFC teams

This is pretty obvious. If the Detroit Lions are going to make the playoffs, they may end up needing help. When an AFC team faces an NFC team, root for the AFC EVERY SINGLE TIME! Here are the AFC vs. NFC matchups for this week.

Jaguars (AFC) @ Giants (NFC)

Seahawks (NFC) @ Broncos (AFC)

Rams (NFC) @ Raiders (AFC)

NFC vs. NFC can be tricky early on

When looking at NFC vs. NFC matchups in the early season, it can be tricky. Reason being, we really do not know which teams will end up challenging the Lions for a playoff spot down the road. That being said, we have you covered. Here are the NFC vs. NFC matchups for Week 1 along with who you should root for.

Buccaneers @ Saints

The Saints could be really good this season. In fact, they are my pick to go to the Super Bowl. That being said, crazy things can happen in the NFL and who knows, the Saints could be a thorn in the side for the Lions as the season rolls along. The Bucs, on the other hand, will be lucky to win 6 games in 2018.

Root for the Buccaneers

49ers @ Vikings

This one is a no-brainer as the Vikings are a team the Lions are competing with directly in the NFC North. A win by the 49ers could help the Lions playoff chances before all is said and done.

Root for the 49ers

Cowboys @ Panthers

The Cowboys, like Tampa Bay, will probably win around 6-7 games in 2018. The Panthers are legit and will certainly be in the playoff hunt.

Root for the Cowboys

Redskins @ Cardinals

This is a tough one because I think both teams will be garbage in 2018. That being said, I think the Redskins have a slightly better chance of making the playoffs so it would be best if they lose this one.

Root for the Cardinals

Bears @ Packers

Call me crazy but I still do not believe the Chicago Bears are a very good team. Sure, their front seven will present problems but the secondary is questionable at best. The Packers will be in the hunt in the NFC North so they have to lose!
