Both the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans find themselves in new positions in this week’s AP poll. The Wolverines, who had their hands full with the Northwestern Wildcats yesterday, capped a comeback from a 17-0 deficit to win 20-17. On the other hand, the Spartans took care of business against the MAC’s Central Michigan Chippewas by a final score of 31-20.
This week’s AP poll features the Wolverines now at #15 in the country, down one spot from where they began the weekend. The Spartans find themselves now sitting at #20, which takes them up one spot from the start of the weekend.
The top five teams remain the same, but there has been a bit of a shakeup as far positioning is concerned. Of course, Alabama remains in the top spot, snagging 1,497 points and 58 first place votes. Georgia continues to hold the number two position, with 1,405 points. Ohio State has jumped into the third spot, after starting the weekend at number four, with 1,395 points and a single first place vote. Clemson, who had to come back in the final minutes to beat unranked Syracuse by a 23-20 score, dropped a spot in the rankings. They now check in at number four, with 1,278 points. Although their performance this weekend was sub-par, they did still snag a first place vote. LSU rounds out the top five, with 1,233 points.
Looking ahead to next weekend, the Wolverines host the Maryland Terrapins at the Big House for their homecoming game, while Michigan State hosts Northwestern at Spartan Stadium for what will also be the Spartans’ homecoming game. Elsewhere across the country, some of the bigger games on the slate for the upcoming weekend include #6 Oklahoma hosting #18 Texas, and #23 Mississippi State hosting #10 Auburn. In the Big Ten, #3 Ohio State hosts Indiana, #15 Wisconsin hosts Nebraska, Rutgers hosts Illinois, and Minnesota hosts Iowa.
