Those words from PA announcer John Mason during the pregame ceremonies at the Palace of Auburn Hills used to bring intense amounts of excitement with them. Now, it’s hard to find anybody who is excited about the Pistons.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you a reason why excitement about the team seems to be at an all-time low. They’ve won each of their first two games to start the season, Blake Griffin is averaging 29.5 points per game, and Andre Drummond is averaging 16.5 rebounds per game (and is also coming through on his pledge to start shooting the three-ball). These are good numbers! The problem? I can assure you that since the NBA season began, I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen anything about the Pistons on television, social media, or anywhere else.
Why does nobody seem to care about this team anymore? Two superstars in the starting lineup, and a dazzling new home venue, but nobody talks about them anymore. Stan Van Gundy is gone, which is what a LOT of griping stemmed from last season. But, even after getting their wish, Pistons Nation has gone completely silent after a 2-0 start.
What will it take to get folks to be excited about Detroit basketball again? The surely easy answer is a deep playoff run. But, let’s not get too carried away just yet. Unless Griffin and Drummond plan on carrying a tremendous amount of weight on their shoulders and just destroying everything in their sight, that playoff run might not be exactly likely this season. But, when it does happen, remember how easy it was for you to bail on this team. Enjoy the good times, and live through the bad. But never give up on your team!
