Game Preview: Detroit Pistons looking for 4-0 start

Still flying high after Tuesday night’s 133-132 overtime win over the Philadelphia 76ers, the Detroit Pistons are looking to continue their hot start to the 2018 season with a win over the 0-4 Cleveland Cavaliers.

Blake Griffin has been carrying the load for the Pistons through the first three games of this new season. Griffin is coming off a career-high 50 points that featured a monster dunk over the 76ers Joel Embiid. The highlight clip is included below for your viewing pleasure:

How good has Blake Griffin been so far this season? Very good. In fact, he is the first Piston ever to record three-straight games of 25-plus points, eight-plus rebounds, and five-plus assists to open a season. Griffin’s stats through three games impressive, including a league-leading 36.3 ppg, but the fact he’s been able to generate this level of production while committing just two turnovers is truly remarkable. If the Pistons want to remain undefeated there is no doubt that Griffin will need to win the matchup against Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Despite Love’s best efforts, the Cavaliers are struggling. They are the only team in the Eastern Conference that still hasn’t won a game. Given how well the Pistons are playing and how poorly the Cavs have started the season, it isn’t too big of a stretch to think that the Pistons are well on their way to starting the season 4-0.

The hot start has the Pistons currently sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference, and a win tonight will help keep pace with the first place Toronto Raptors (4-0) and the second Milwaukee Bucks (5-0).

While it’s too early in the season to get overly excited about the standings, it is a welcome change for Detroit sports fans as the Lions are currently tied for third place in the NFC North and the Red Wings sitting in last place of the NHL standings.

Many fans still haven’t taken notice of the team, which makes sense considering how bad they’ve been in past seasons. But if Blake Griffin and company can continue this momentum it won’t take long for Piston fans to find their way to LCA.

In a city desperate to celebrate a winning team, the Pistons may just be Detriot’s best hope.
