Here is the statement released by Lions head coach Matt Patricia, in case you missed it.

STATEMENT FROM LIONS HEAD COACH MATT PATRICIA:

“Tonight I spoke to Joe and informed him of my decision to relieve him of his responsibilities with our team. I appreciate Joe’s leadership of our special teams units over the last three and a half seasons and have great respect for his many years of service as a coach in the National Football League. On behalf of our team and the entire coaching staff, I want to personally thank Joe for his commitment to the Detroit Lions and wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

But that statement did not address who the new special teams coordinator would be moving forward.

According to Time Twentyman of the Detroit Lions, he believes that Devin Fitzsimmons will likely take over the role. Fitzsimmons was the assistant special teams coach under Marciano.

LOOK: The Detroit News uses headline to troll Lions’ Matt Patricia

The past week has been an interesting one for the Detroit Lions and it all ended on Sunday with a lackluster performance on the road against the Minnesota Vikings.

One of the big headlines this week, rather than talking about the football team, instead focused on an incident that happened during a Matt Patricia press conference.

During that presser, Patricia had an exchange with a reporter that left many media members feeling insulted.

In case you missed it, here was how the back-and-forth went.

Reporter: “Why do you think this move makes your franchise better?”

Patricia: “Ah, well, you know. Do me a favor just kinda sit up, just like, have a little respect for the process. Every day you come and ask me questions and you’re just kinda like you know, ‘gimme this.’ “

Reporter: “I’m sitting …”

Patricia: “I’m asking just to be a little respectful in this whole process.”

Reporter: “Okay, that’s fine.”

Patricia: “So ask me a question professionally and I’ll answer it for you.”

Patricia then went on to answer the question.
