As the team continues to make their final preparations for the game, Lions general manager Bob Quinn was busy signing a familiar face.

According to reports, the Lions have signed free agent safety, Don Carey. In a corresponding move, the Lions waived DE Eric Lee.

From Detroit Lions:

Carey returns to Detroit after most recently spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2018 preseason. Prior to Jacksonville, he spent seven seasons (2011-17) with the Lions and appeared in 84 games (12 starts) during that span. Carey’s 67 total tackles (57 solo) on special teams tied for the ninth most in the NFL during his previous stint with the club.

Currently in his 10th NFL season, Carey has played in 99 career games (22 starts). His career totals include 120 total tackles (87 solo), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three interceptions, in addition to 71 special teams tackles (61 solo). Carey originally entered the NFL in 2009 as a sixth-round (177th overall) draft selection by the Cleveland Browns out of Norfolk State.

It may be cold and snowy outside but let’s shift our focus to Detroit Tigers baseball for a moment!

On Monday, the 2019 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot was released and it includes former Tigers infielder, Placido Polanco.

Polanco played with the Tigers from 2005-2009. During that time, he hit .311 in 632 games and helped lead the Tigers to the 2006 World Series.

From Baseball Writers’ Association of America:

Polanco, a .297 career hitter in a 16-season career with the Phillies, Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers, won two Gold Glove Awards as a second baseman and one as a third baseman, the only player to win awards at two infield positions. In addition, Polanco owns the highest career fielding percentages among qualified fielders at those positions: .993 at second base and .983 at third base. He was the MVP of the 2006 ALCS in the Tigers’ pennant-winning victory over the A’s.
