Was there really any doubt? The Michigan Insider has revealed that Chase Winovich was officially cleared to play in Saturday’s game against the rival Buckeyes.

Winovich had exited Michigan’s game last weekend against Indiana with an apparent upper-body injury and did not return to the game. X-rays came back negative and, with no structural damage, Winovich was always likely to suit up even if he is on a snap count. The leader of the “Revenge Tour” and one of the toughest players that Michigan has ever had was never going to miss the chance to get his team to their first appearance in a B1G title game.
This observation was backed up by Winovich’s teammate and roommate Shea Patterson in an interview on Tuesday.

Winovich, a fifth-year senior and emotional leader of the top-ranked Wolverine defense, enters Saturday’s game with 3.5 sacks this season according to ESPN.com and he will be looking to improve those numbers against a pass-heavy Ohio State offense. For the first time in recent memory, the Buckeye’s offense is lead by a pocket passer in Dwayne Haskins. This is a big change from the RPO heavy offense that the Buckeyes have rolled out over the last ten seasons. The man-to-man style that Don Brown employs in the defensive backfield will be the key to Michigan getting pressure on Haskins. If the DBs can hold up, Winovich and his very deep group of defensive line teammates will have a chance to get some hits on the OSU QB.
