Rashan Gary‘s mother Jennifer Coney-Shepherd called into the “Big Drew & Jim” on ESPN 96.1FM Grand Rapids to defend her son after the hosts raised the question of whether or not Rashan Gary is overrated.

The radio show hosts questioned why Gary had a disappointing performance against Ohio State last Saturday and why his play this season hasn’t been at the same level it was last year.
Coney-Shepherd responded by explaining the role that Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich play in Don Brown‘s defense. She went on to make the argument that Gary’s job isn’t to get sacks, his job is to anchor the defense. Jennifer successfully pointed out that Winovich didn’t have a sack while filling in for Gary during his injury.
They did find some common ground by the end of the call, but Jennifer Coney-Shepherd definitely won over my vote for Mom of the Year.

BREAKING: Michigan DE Rashan Gary makes decision on future via YouTube
On Saturday, the University of Michigan went into Columbus, Ohio with the hopes of dismantling the Ohio State Buckeyes and advancing to the Big Ten Championship game.
Unfortunately, for the Wolverines and their fans, the Buckeyes did not cooperate as they absolutely destroyed Michigan 62-39.
Now, Michigan has learned that defensive end Rashan Gary is leaving for the NFL Draft via a YouTube video posted by Gary, himself.
“I would like to thank my higher powers, my family, the University of Michigan and the students and the fans, but I will be forgoing my senior season to make a dream come true to declare for the draft. Thank you, go Blue!”
With this announcement, it would be surprising to see Gary suit up for the Wolverines in whatever bowl it is they play in.
