Harbaugh: Few changes coming to Michigan in 2019

This might not be the news that Michigan Wolverines fans were hoping to hear from head coach Jim Harbaugh after yet another frustrating loss for the Maize and Blue – not many changes appear to be on the horizon.

Michigan’s 41-15 loss to Florida in the Peach Bowl capped another season in which expectations weren’t met for Michigan. The main expectation was to finally get a win over the rival Ohio State Buckeyes after six consecutive defeats. But a 62-39 blowout setback in Columbus meant Michigan wouldn’t be heading to the Big Ten Championship game, and instead had to settle yet again.

But Harbaugh doesn’t anticipate any big changes in Ann Arbor next season.

“I think we’re going to take what we have and reload,” Harbaugh said Saturday. “A new season and tighten up. But keep working. Keep working to put it over the top.”

Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown interviewed for the head-coaching job at Temple, while assistant head coach and passing-game coordinator Pep Hamilton interviewed at Maryland. Both coaches remain in Ann Arbor, and Harbaugh doesn’t think anything else is going to happen.

“No,” he said.

Despite the disappointing losses to Ohio State, Florida, and Notre Dame in the season opener, it sounds as though Harbaugh is going to take what his team has and simply hope to continue moving forward, hoping that it all comes together.

“We’re beaten by — on those days, we were beaten by better teams,” Harbaugh said. “So, we have to persevere, be persistent, keep working and put it over the top.”

Michigan’s offense is expected to return most of their top players, including quarterback Shea Patterson and three of its top receivers and four of its five starters along the offensive line.
