BREAKING: Detroit Lions hire new Vice President of Football Administration

According to the Detroit Lions, they have hired Mike Disner as their new Vice President of Football Administration.

From Detroit Lions:

Disner joins the Lions after spending the past six seasons (2013-18) with the Arizona Cardinals as the club’s Director of Football Administration. During his time in Arizona, he helped manage player contract negotiations and was directly involved in the strategic planning of the club’s salary cap. He also served as the Cardinals liaison to the NFL Management Council.

Prior to Arizona, Disner worked with the NFL Management Council for four years as Labor Operations Manager (2012) and Labor Operations Coordinator (2009-11). He began his NFL career as a scouting assistant with the New England Patriots in 2007 after working as an intern for the team for two summers (2005 and 2006).

A West Bloomfield, Mich. native, Disner played baseball at Williams College (Mass.) and earned a degree in Economics. He and his wife, Gail, have two sons, Teddy and Archie.

GM Bob Quinn: Team is tougher since I took over

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn recently spoke to media members and stated his belief that the team is tougher to play against since he took the reigns in January of 2016.

During his first two years as GM, the Lions finished 9-7 both times with average offensive and defensive numbers. Though the defense remained average during head coach Matt Patricia’s first year, the offense took a dip in efficiency, ranking 25th overall in scoring.

But Quinn is choosing to look more at the intangibles rather than the hard numbers.

“I think we’re a more physical team,” Quinn said. “I think we have a much better and sound, fundamentally, defense, especially run defense. I think we play a physical brand of football, which before, I didn’t think that was the case my first year or two. I think this year, we drastically improved that. …I think the same thing can be said for the offensive line and the running game. I know that part’s better.”
