Jim Schwartz: Detroit Lions’ waived player may be key to Philadelphia Eagles success

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles may have needed a blocked kick, but they escaped with a 16-15 upset of the Chicago Bears. With the win, the Eagles have advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs, where they will meet the New Orleans Saints.

According to Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, they may not be where they are at today had it not been for a player who was waived by the Detroit Lions earlier in the season.

That player is Cre’Von LeBlanc.

LeBlanc was waived by the Lions in early November and then claimed almost immediately by the Eagles.

Schwartz recently spoke about LeBlanc and pointed to that waiver claim as one of the keys to the season.

“I don’t know where we’d be without Cre’Von,” Schwartz said. “Our scouts, midway through the season, [Vice President of Player Personnel] Joe Douglas came to me and said, ‘Hey look, there’s this guy that just became available and our scouts have a good feel for him.’ And guys like [Executive Vice President of Football Operations] Howie [Roseman] and Joe, they are up front, but some of those guys that work in those back rooms without a light, without a window and stuff like that and they are pouring overall these guys that get cut or go somewhere else. Well, that might have been the key to our season putting the waiver claim in.”

Well, Lions’ fans, at least we still have Teez Tabor on our roster!

GM Bob Quinn: Team is tougher since I took over

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn recently spoke to media members and stated his belief that the team is tougher to play against since he took the reigns in January of 2016.

During his first two years as GM, the Lions finished 9-7 both times with average offensive and defensive numbers. Though the defense remained average during head coach Matt Patricia’s first year, the offense took a dip in efficiency, ranking 25th overall in scoring.

But Quinn is choosing to look more at the intangibles rather than the hard numbers.
