Here’s something Detroit Red Wings forward Andreas Athanasiou can put on his final resume: He made the great Alex Ovechkin look like a fool.
This past season in a game against the Washington Capitals, Athanasiou was able to get past Ovechkin before taking a wicked wrist shot to beat goaltender Braden Holtby. The goal tied the score at one with 6:30 remaining in the first period.
Athanasiou wasn’t done, he scored another goal later in the period to give the Wings a 2-1 to lead, which game him 13 on the year at the time. [NOTE: Both Athanasiou goals here begin at 6:18 in the video]
