Throughout the history of the National Football League, there have been some ungodly hits that have taken place on the field. Whether it was Jack Tatum’s hit on Darryl Stingley in 1978 that caused Stingley to be a quadriplegic or Lawrence Taylor ending the career of Joe Theismann with one of the most gruesome hits/injuries of all-time, we have seen it all.

Theismann’s injury was awful but in terms of the hardest hit on a quarterback of all-time, we have to look no further than our own Detroit Lions.

It all happened in 1985 when Lions signal-caller Eric Hipple faked a hand off before rolling out. Unfortunately for Hipple, he never saw Scot Brantley of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who hit him so hard that he lost both his helmet and the ball.
