Game Notes:
Things started well for the Tigers when they got off to a 1-0 start in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by James McCann. However, that was all the offense could muster against Arizona starter, Zack Goodley. They compiled only five hits on the night as every ball they hit seemed to be pounded into the ground. Other than that, there wasn’t much of a threat from the Tigers bats tonight.
Matt Boyd surrendered four runs (three earned) over six innings, leaving with a 4-1 deficit. Anibal Sanchez entered in the seventh and essentially ended the game, giving up back-to-back home runs and extending the Diamondbacks lead to 7-1. After that, there was nothing more the Tigers could do, going quietly for their last nine outs.
Looking Ahead:
After the quick series in Arizona, the Tigers head now to Anaheim to face the Los Angeles Angels for a four-game series. The Tigers haven’t fared too well in the Angels home digs in recent history, and in order to make this a successful road trip will need to win two of those games. A tall order for sure.
