Could another family lineage be forming at Michigan State? Their latest pledge for the Class of 2018 may support that.
On Monday, 3-star defensive back Michael Dowell (Lakewood, OH) announced his commitment to the Spartans.

Michael (6-foot, 195 pounds) is the younger brother of current Spartans, Andrew and David Dowell. He is regarded as a top-20 player in the state of Ohio and top-30 safety in the country.
Safety David Dowell, a redshirt sophomore come next season, played in ten games last season for Michigan State, recording 10 total tackles (4 solo) and recovered one fumble on defense.
Linebacker Andrew Dowell meanwhile will be a junior in 2017 and had a coming out party last season in what was a disappointing and difficult year for the Spartans. Andrew in 12 games recorded 67 tackles, third most on the team, while adding one sack, one interception and three pass break-ups.
Michigan State managed to land commits from both Andrew and David back in January of 2015, after they were previously committed to the University of Kentucky.
2018 MSU CLASS COUNTER: 6
The addition of the youngest Dowell brother gives the Spartans now six pledges for the Class of 2018, a class that currently ranks 9th in the Big Ten and 36th in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Dowell is also the fourth commit from the state of Ohio for MSU. He’s the latest commit for the Spartans since 3-star ILB Edward Warinner (Powell, OH), who formally announced his hard commit back in mid-April. Michael is the second defensive back for this ’18 class, first since 3-star CB Christian Jackson (Marietta, GA), who announced back in early March.
